Tigers are the largest members of the cat family and are renowned for their power and strength.
There were 8 sub-species of tiger, but sadly 3 of these became extinct in the 20th Century. Bengal tigers now count for nearly half of all tiger numbers.
Rarely the Bengal tigers produce white specimens. They are not a seperate sub-species and they are not albino, but they have reduced pigment - known as leucism.
Fun Facts...
At around 10cm, the Bengal tiger has the largest canine teeth of any living cat!
The reddish gold fur and black stripes stand out in captivity, but in the wild these markings act as camouflage. As tigers move, their stripes appear to change their shape and blend them into their surroundings.
