The Problem with Group Shots by darylo

The Problem with Group Shots

I started early this morning to get a shot and went to one of the locations where I do senior portraits. There is often a blue heron and a gaggle of Canada geese around. The heron was not there, but I did see a beautiful hawk fly above my head to a high perch. https://365project.org/darylo/album3/2021-01-06

I was thinking happy thoughts. My state had just achieved a monumental miracle: we voted for TWO democratic senators, which takes away the majority in the senate from the Republican party. I've been active in grassroots organizations to make this happen over the past 4 years, but I've been a very active voter my whole life, rarely missing an election on any level. My kids know I am passionate about voting, everyone knows I think it is a duty of every citizen. I never dictate how one should vote, but I know that I was going to do all I could to promote our two new senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.

So I was just happy, carrying around my 35mm lens knowing that bird shots were not a good option, but what the heck, why not try.

This group is like every group shot--getting all eyes on the photographer is a challenge!

I thought it was striking for the reflections and for the one on the right going for some grub just as I set up the take.

Our nation is in peril as I write. My elation of the morning turned to horror and disgust. But I've been horrified for four years. I am not in shock--the fact that folks are just now expressing shock just befuddles my mind. We are a broken society. I'm tempted to be the goose on the right, but I'll be the one in the middle, looking directly at the issues, and I won't turn a blind eye to the damage our President has done to an entire nation.

My apologies to all who are witnessing our disaster. We will prevail in better times.

You continue to not disappoint with your bird shots! The clarity in this one is awesome and I think it is better for NOT having them all looking at the camera!

I am in total agreement

Yes, on so many levels. The morning was such a wonderful one, full of hope and positive direction. Tonight, the symbolism of Congress continuing to meet means so much.

@taffy As long as they get it done....

Regarding the capture - LOL...that's a perfect title. Makes me think of a friend trying to get a decent Christmas card photo with a husband, a young child and 2 dogs.

Regarding today's event - I applaud the citizens of GA for getting out there and voting - I was cautiously hopeful and so happy to here the news. But I'm afraid that I am the goose on the right - for my mental and emotional health for the past 8 months, I stay away from social media, news, and certain "friends". I'm making my world as small as possible, except for 365 - don't know what I would do without my 365 community.

Love the title and the goose on the right.

@linnypinny oh, I'm technically on a break from Facebook--self imposed. You have to take care of you. I don't watch any cable news (I don't have cable!), but I read good sources. Take care and realize my writing on here is rather confessional and doesn't mean you have to read it! I started 365 in 2013 as a writing project. I still have a problem just talking about a photo. The goose on the right is taking care of himself, so he's the smartest! ❤❤❤

Keep on being the one in the middle Daryl! Don't give up. This is a super image and your narrative is so inspiring.

A great group shot. I like that they're each doing their own thing. The news is totally appalling. I can only hope that good sense wins in the end.

@darylo They did! Good news to wake up to...let's hope this nightmare is almost over. Good work to all you Georgians (and all who helped from outside). I've stopped saying 'it can't get worse.' But at least there has been some good news.
