When I went out for my morning walk, there were so many birds, and I cursed myself for not going with the camera in hand.
But low and behold, this lovely dove decided to perch on a tree outside my house later just before lunch. He/she? was quite the curious one and did not seem to mind me slowly approaching and adjusting my settings. I'm no good with focus while holding my zoom. But thank you lovely dove!
I t's really hard to hold even my iPhone and get a close up pic. I tried it today in the really cold weather and shot a mocking bird, but it wasn't a hot shot! Yours is so compact and balanced against the gray sky...lovey dovey!
@jo13 Jo, I took most of them manually (when the tree limbs get in the way, it can't focus appropriately). BUT my old lady eye-sight is kicking in and I really have problems determining the right point of focus on these things (then the bird move, of course!). I just don't get the crispness that I see in so many other posts (I'm also such a newbie--duh!).
Nice POV! The birds are usually too fast for me so I often use auto-focus with them and sometimes sports mode. And thanks for voting for me on AC-Weston, greatly appreciated.
@judis When I don't have the branches to get through (which is often the case to sight the bird), I used the auto or sports mode, but when there are branches, etc, I've been using manual focus. Even so, I'm too shaky, so I don't get that super crisp focus I see on so many other's shots! My zoom is 75-300mm. Thanks for coming to comment!
Excellent Dove capture ! One trick that helps in situations with branches is to learn to set your focus point on the camera. Then get that point on the eye of the bird. I often use the upper left or upper right focus point, it depends on how the bird is sitting. Hope this helps some.
@foxsparrow Thanks so much for the advice. I have yet to learn how to shift the focus spot, but I have seen it and will work with it this week. Great help! :)
