SOOC! I don't know how to express my joy today at taking my time, using manual (really playing with iso, aperture, and shutter speed), and getting several shots I'm really proud of--wish I could load more!
What I learned is that the evening glow can do wonders in terms of lighting (same with morning because I did some morning shots too--surprise...birds). I also love how I can create a bokeh effect playing with the aperture.
I feel like I turned a real corner today in terms of getting to know my camera. My subjects today were a cardinal (may put that one in the extra album), a mocking bird, some wonderful singing bird way up high in the tree, a Dapper Downey Woodpecker, some other woodpecker (all brown--will start researching--update: a brown-headed nuthatch), a turtle, fading blossoms (macro with my zoom), gorgeous stand up leaves reaching for the sun, rusted red grates. They all came out almost true to color with very little need of touch ups.
What a terrific shot of a bulrush. I'm so glad that you are using your camera on manual. It is still something I only do on occasions and should try to lose my fear of.
@steampowered I got much better shots this way, but it is time consuming because I don't instinctively know what settings will work better. I had to do something while my daughter was a soccer practice, so I got in a good long walk and practice with the camera. Smashing day! Now what to do today? :)
@jo13 Yesterday was my big "I made a real turn" day. I was so pleased--but now I have to run outside and take a shot--I've been at the mall all day with kids because the schools are out. :/ I hate malls. Thanks so much for visiting and commenting.
Fantastic shot. I love the golden hour, too. I do use my manual focus but very seldom use the rest of the triangle. You are inspiring me to learn how to do that.
@judis Yes, the golden hour--a good way to put it. Maybe the next camera settings we could push ourselves to do something with a certain setting or a specific focus? I'd be game.
@quietpurplehaze Thanks Hazel. I'm just realizing I have come a long way from Jan. 1. :) This is the best place to learn with such encouraging 365 friends. :)
Thanks for putting this link in -- it's so interesting to be able to do these 'look back' to significant events in our 365 lives. It's exciting to think about how we've grown together, how language about ISO, Aperture, etc. roll off our fingers as we type, and how it makes sense when we read about choices that were made. What a year, plus a few months!
