I have never been able to catch a blue jay upclose, but my muddy backyard makes the dry grass just right for nest building time--luckily caught him in this nice profile with beak full. Such lovely patterns on their backs!
Thanks so much for all the great comments on yesterday's Mocking Bird. I made it to the Popular Page for the first time and I'm shocked!
@danitech Thanks Danielle--thrilled! I rarely get to see the blue jays up close, so this was so nerve wracking not to shake and shoot! I swear, I'm such a funny sight (if only people could see how ridiculous I look trying to catch a bird who moves so darned much!).
Don't mess with this bluejay. He/she is busy nest building. My friend Patt says, "Y
ou'll have a lot more respect for a bird when you try making a nest."
@shunter I do have a very unfond memory of going toward some baby blue jays on the ground (as a child) and getting completely attacked by mama jay bird. I have much respect, and usually good distance, from these guys. Luckily, a window was protecting me. :)
This is fab too, love the colour, what a handsome chappie!
