Ok, so finally, I'm really understanding why light makes such a difference when trying to capture detail on a bird! This is AI Servo but I changed to TV mode (trying for the first time today) as I'm having issues with using a high enough shutterspeed to really get a good focus. Got one of mama robin here I think in some of the best focus I have ever done. So, yes, I'm chuffed, to borrow a wonderful term from Jo across the pond! :)
@jo 's got me saying that word, too... I wonder if she'll have singlehandedly sent the term into common American parlance.
This is wonderful, Daryl. I, on the other hand, having seen your exciting AI Servo monkey swing, decided to switch to AI Servo at the moment a bald eagle flew over my boat this morning.... and I fumbled. I probably should have played with a puppet on a swing first. :^)
WOW Daryl, this is absolute perfection, you are right to be chuffed, it's a fantastic shot, and the background is stunning to, an instant fav. Really well done x
@squamloon It does take practice and I'm taking more slow moving targets with it. @jo13 is my language instructor. Don't get us started on the term "pants!" right Jo? And @jo13, many thanks for your comments and fav--I'm really trying to channel you everytime I take a bird shot. It's lovely.
Splendid shot! AI Servo mode is useful but I wouldn't use it for static objects, only for moving ones. I would also change my autofocus points to something that covers more than a single point. I must admit to using the word "chuffed" a lot.
@steampowered Thanks for the tips on the autofocus points. I tried both today in the approximate 300 shots. Ugh. :) I've been saying "chuffed" here in the states now and I'm feeling ever the more British every day. Yay!
You have every right to be chuffed!!! The detail in this photo is amazing so is the background bokeh! The focus is spot on; you've done a fantastic job here!!! My fav!
@lunaksi@judis@danette@witchyjacq@twistergirl@taffy@amrita21@elisasaeter Thanks all so much for your lovely comments! And the favs. I really was excited to get such detail--so much has to do with how much light you can get! Funny, it's been raining and I've been stubborn with taking bird shots--should just go for static subjects on bad weather days. :)
Yay! Terrific! Yes, I am now starting to say things like CHUFFED as well. It rubs off on you...I have been on here two years....it really starts just popping out! I learned too, about light and getting the bird shots. This one is great. He looks so fat at the bottom! Haha I need to try out the special modes like TV...I stay in manual / with Auto ISO alot....
This is excellent ! You really nailed the focus, but you have others with excellent focus too. Chickadee shot comes to mind. Lighting is paramount, and the darn birds always land in the worst places for photographing them. Don't think for a minute that they don't know : )
Fav !
I had to download Google Chrome...and was logged out of 365 when I went to get back on...and your robin was one of the 9 pics on the sign in screen! yay! what an honor.
@gsanemone Oh, yes, I try to stay out of her way, but she shows up all of the sudden, ready to take me on if I get too close to the nest! Don't mess with mama!
@kaarina365 so true. I'm really trying to use manual so I can control the capture, but so many things come into play. For capturing precise photos with birds, light has so much to do with it and I've been trying to force something my camera cannot do sometimes when the light is not there--this day was perfect light. I still wish I'd forced the shutter speed up on this one, but I'm taking it for what it is now. by month 8, I'm hoping to have much better shots. I love how this tracks my progress from day 1-day 365. I love how everyone here helps me learn too! Best addiction ever!
