A young teen, Correy, who was like another daughter to me, passed away too early in 2010 in this month. One way I and her mother and her family and her friends remember her is through butterflies--they visited us in our mourning that year, that month, and I feel like she visits me when butterflies appear each year. Her tombstone has a stained glass butterfly in it, which I photographed earlier (see: http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-01-30), and her mother has the replica glass in her home.
Lately in my garden, a butterfly has been visiting with its mate and they dance from flower to flower. At one point, it was on top of a marigold and the orange hues matched between butterfly and bloom--but I arrived too late. The top of the wings has a rich orange--almost a flooded orange, and then below the wing, what appears white is actually silver--I can't seem to capture the glare it produces, but I liked how this angle gave a glimpse of both sides.
We all miss Correy so much. She touched our lives in such profound ways, and I like to think that she is always with me in one way or another. I just know that each August, the butterflies visit and remind me of the pain of loss but also the joy of having the opportunity to cherish the time we had with Correy and continue to have with her mother and brother.
Daryl, this is such a lovely but heartbreaking tribute to read. The photo is stunning, but such a sad loss.
On a totally different note, I've been thinking about you today because our skies are filled with the most amazing clouds and I can't photograph a sky without thinking of you now!
@taffy Oh that makes me happy about the skies! It's funny, I can't see a sky without thinking of you and saying to myself, "how would Taffy capture and process this?" :)
A very pretty shot of this lovely butterfly and a heartfelt tribute in it and in your text to Correy. it's good to remember and to express that remembrance.
Goodness how very sad, but what a perfect way to remember someone through seeing butterflies. This is a really wonderful shot, fantastic focus and colours.
I visite the page of your stained glass butterfly, and I agree -- it's a very special piece, and I like how it connects to live visitors you have. What a beautifully photographed butterfly.
