Whenever someone issues me a challenge, I go all out trying to achieve it, so each day, I've been trying to get one of these Dolichopodid flies with a mosquito or small gnat in its mouth--that was the challenge. Yesterday, I did get one eating a teeny, tiny white fly (even saw it catch it), but I realized about after 20 shots that I did not actually have my macro clip on. Yes, I thought it was on and didn't realize with the fly being so far away--I was thinking, why can't I get this in focus? It seems so far away? Duh.
So out I went today for another attempt to catch a fly getting its meal--bingo! Wow, it's eating a pretty big something too! It's almost as big as it! Oh, then I got my macro clip in focus (what that means is I hold my breath and move forward and backwards trying to find the tiny thing), and well, I guess I was invading a special moment.
As I left, I mumbled..."Get a room for goodness sakes!" Sorry, Jason, just fly funny business today. With a tiny bokeh light for ambience. Will try again tomorrow!
Funny, funny narrative! I can so relate to the "hold breath, sway in and out" thing. And you got an EYE FULL! Which Jason challenged you in this Get pushed "fly eats bug"t hing?
So many times this past month, I've zoomed in on something and then thought, "Get a room!" Well, I guess a leaf or flower is their "room". Love your narrative...made me laugh.
SILVER! Which is almost Gold but not quite... still this is a cracking shot and I've clicked on the fave button. Your narrative is lovely and I can picture it so well, after being there myself many a time.
Although normally after I hold my breath, I start to sweat as part two of my macro photography... but every activity makes one sweat in the tropics.
@bobfoto I'll take the silver! Still will try for gold. Yes, the sweating--I can totally relate. Add in the glasses I wear, the fog sets in as I sway, hold breath, and sweat (I'm in the South--humidity is our thang). It's always a fun time.
when you capture it always seems a bit rude to put the photo out for public viewing, but then they do it in public....I have a photo of two crickets, I refrained to put on here, but it has been very successful in our club competitions :)
