RAIN. Dagnabit. And you don't get to see the full effect of a fully bloomed dogwood (but wait, you can see it here: http://365project.org/darylo/didn-t-make-cut/2014-03-26). The leaves will miraculously turn white in a week and those frayed edges will make some marks in them. It looks a bit diseased at the moment, but it'll be wonderful by midweek next week!
Tomorrow ends my macro look at seven plants. The final day's shot (the 31st), who the heck knows what that will be, but my pest plant is gonna look the same, so onward.
OK I am so incredibly slow...I just realized the pattern! This was such a great idea!!! LOVE the calendar view and of course every single shot that helped create it! You are so talented!!
@luvmynynix uh, oh, that means no hot dog points for you because you didn't see my ever-repetitive note to click on the calendar view, BUT in your defense, how the heck does anyone know what a calendar view button is any more! Ross messed it allllllll up. Hahahahaha. Just Joking. You know! Thanks for the visit girlie. I'm so behind. Sooooo, so behind.
@darylo Hahaha! That is so funny! I do feel that way about the calendar...in general I like the new format, but I have to click and move too many things to find that calendar.
@luvmynynix I agree. It has virtually stumped every single "outsider" now when I try to direct them @scrivna it's ok from a 365er perspective, but a calendar icon at the top would REALLY shortcut this new system. I'm doing more (not less) clicks these days. But I do love the larger image. I want access to the albums to be more evident -- traffic outside site is not going to get it.
I love the details in this -- the seeds look like they are in an sac of some kind. And the link to what it will look like works well. You did an awesome job and even without the last image, I love your calendar view (do I get a hotdog?). Well done!! Relax -- one more day of the weekend. I love these exciting Saturday nights online at 365!
@taffy I know! I'm so excited to be on and chatting to you! You get a hotdog! I do need to relax--I had both kids gone by afternoon and I made the mistake of going to a Kohl's to find 1) jacket for hubby on sale 2) soda stream replacement cannisters and 3) clothes for me (including bathing suits for spring break coming up in a week). The final one just about killed me. I decided to table it until I take the girls to do the same this week. Next month, we go to Sandestin, FL. My girls have never seen the gulf side, and I've only seen it a few times (we are Atlantic side vacationers since both of my parents are from those areas).
@luvmynynix I know how to take a screen shot. Is that all you did? I also have to cut out the first two days as "BBQ" and "Snake" are not part of the project! I've seen some folks also add some text and stuff. Would you share what you did? If it's not a pain. I'm only on here a few more minutes and then off to bed and to catch SNL--who knows when I last saw that show? :)
@darylo I had a similar day, but without kids at home, more selfish -- haircut late morning, so went to Macy's Secret Garden display (amazing) for about 45 minutes on the way there (120 photos), then haircut, then decided to walk home, stopping at Apple store (I am desperate for new computer -- have no memory on this one), Chicago River (about 25 photos), Chicago Public Library (about 60 photos), til finally a few hours had passed and I needed to get home, so that meant subway photos (another 30 or so). No wonder my computer has no memory, but other than dinner, that's what I've done today -- play with photos and comment. What a nice night! (Good thing it's the Elite 8 tournament as Jim hasn't even realized I'm not interacting).
I just used the snipping tool to capture the screen and then cut out only the parts that I wanted! If you wanted to add text, you could open it up in Photoshop or even Picmonkey and do it there.
@taffy it has been a nice night, and there is nothing like having the camera handy. I stopped off at three locations just to take shots between the drug store, Kohl's, and a quick bite of dinner solo. Yes, get a HUGE memory on next purchase. My desktop has a really big internal memory! Worth it in the end. I've started dumping the things I'm not going to edit or care about. I try to whittle down now every day to just a few images! I'm getting brutal with the cuts. Amazing what I can see in my shots (out-of-focus details especially) and I'll just go "you're a goner-delete!" Last year, I didn't have such a good eye! But then I hold on to somewhat really blah ones like I did with a puddle today, and I try and try and try to make it come alive. Fail today!
What a really super monthly calendar - read the comments and had to go look. Great idea. Today's shot is wonderful - love the dogwood in all its stages - your detail is fantastic here.
@darylo I have no place for a desktop, so was looking at macbook pros since they at least can hold a terabyte. The problem with urban living -- no space. But my Air only has 250GB which is about what I need each month, so it's a pain at the end of each month (and 31 days in March has pushed it) to export everything to hard drives and then re-back up everything. Tomorrow's task. UGH.
@taffy I am fortunate to have an office in my house (it's a small bedroom) and I have a desktop with two large monitors on my desk. My mom has a Mac and I thought the computer was basically in the monitor which saves space for her desk. We recently acquired my mother-in-law's laptop which has a nice large screen, but I find it really hard to edit on a laptop. Good luck! I know they make laptops so much better now. I'm not a Mac user, but I'm sure you'll love whatever you get.
Amazing month that shows the progressions so well!!
The leaves don't actually turn white. It is the bracts which are similar to the bracts of the poinsettia in that they turn colors and the flowers themselves are what we usually think of as stamens. This shot shows it beautifully too because of the close up view. Well done, Daryl!
@grammyn Yes, I had the info originally on the first shot and then in my efforts to correct the broken link, eliminated it all. So the bract info was there, but not really. I'll fix it later this afternoon! Soccer, soccer, soccer. Got my last shot in today and will make a monthly view to add as the last day's shot.
@darylo I didn't mean for you to stress about it. I just thought you would like to know! I am not very smart but every now and then I know a little something! ;~} Great idea for the last day of the month shot!
