Storm Brewing on the Pitch. Day 2 of Tryouts Over.
My youngest is trying out for what we call "select" soccer and she's doing quite well for a kid who has never really had much official training. She played with a really nice group of girls this last year and a half--but she wanted to "push herself" this coming year. We'll see...
She asked me tonight, "what is 'man on?'" and I replied that one of her teammates is letting her know that someone from the other team is approaching her and to plan a pass. She said, "oooooooooh! That makes so much sense!" She's not ready to ask the coaches (all with their clipboards in hand taking notes) what they mean by half of the drills they give, but she's been a careful observer and has picked up pretty well on her own.
The other girls are also really very encouraging and welcoming (they have been playing together a long time already and there are only a few "newbies" trying out who hope to make the cut), which was a relief -- let's just say we've seen some tryouts where the behavior of parents and kids is no fun to witness. So far, no drama. I'm already happy. Let's hope she makes the cut. If not, it looks like I'll be coaching a rec team next year. I'd actually like that opportunity if this doesn't work out! :)
