Today my oldest child returns from Japan. She's flying somewhere right now or is in San Francisco or well, somewhere, but by midnight, she'll be home. So I'll pray to the weather gods that all goes well as that trip is really unbearable, and she'll do it all again in July.
For the past day, I've seen some wrens working madly at nesting, and I have been really jealous this summer that all the birds have chosen to nest in neighbors' yards and trees and bushes (which means I have to go traipsing across their lawns and hope they don't have guns or something aimed at me--GA does have the GUNS EVERYWHERE LAW AFTERALL! Blech. My state is so dumb).
Anywho, this morning, mama and papa wrens flitted above my head, sang loudly, and announced they were setting shop up in my gutters just to the left of my garage door (that might explain them foraging in the garage the other day too). So I stood below them as they came and went this morning. Just under the lattice on the gutter is the nest area. I'm hoping that the area is a wise choice as it's not on the flooding end, but it will get wet. We shall see.
So my baby is coming and looks like babies are on their way. I'll really hope they make it. Most nests I've observed lately have had a hard time, and I suspect a hungry squirrel could find this one an easy target.
At least I won't have to worry about being the target of any gun now. I'm on my own land, living the freedom of fearlessness.
LOL! Hot dog for the birds! Really fabulous catch.Glad to know your baby is probably home by now recounting her adventures to you! What an opportunity!
