The Trial

New Profile:
Start of "Year" Three, AKA "Post When I Can" (Feb. 7, 2014).

New for 2015! I have started a Flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/130415259@N03/

My brand NEW camera: Canon 7D Mark II. It was a big birthday present. Let's just say "welcome to the second half-century of my life!"

My other Camera: Canon Rebel EOS T2i--never let anyone tell you that a baseline DSLR can't do stuff (see years 1 & 2 in "365 and Beyond" album). Unsolicited advice: use whatever camera thing you have (phone, bridge, pocket, film, etc.). It's YOU that takes the shot, not the camera.

Here are my goals for the year:

1) figure out how to use a 7D Mark II--followers and friends, please prepare for cursing and pulling-of-hair comments--you venture here at your own risk.

2) fix my ongoing woes of never knowing what to do in a photographic emergency--like when a computer crashes and I back everything up, I reload everything, and I actually mess it all up. I am still in that fix from 2014, but I WILL succeed. I'm rather stubborn.

3) post when I can--seriously, this year, you WILL see gaps, OR I will be posting something on a day that has no relation to the day so it will all appear like it goes together. I'm in year 3. I have a 365 license to do whatever the heck I want. Actually, I had that license from day 1, but I was intimidated then. I'm not. I'll blast you if you say "oh, you don't have a real 365 project." But I know you won't do that because this place is the NICEST PLACE ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB! And I really won't blast you. I'm part of that nice crowd.

If you are new, take your time. You have a year to figure it all out. My first year (and second) was an absolute blast.

Here is my one article I wrote that gives 10 reasons to start a 365 project. I think it sums up my feelings about this place:

Thanks to Alexis Birkill for providing a link to photos that have made the popular page: http://alexisbirkill.com/365project/popularpage/getuserdetails.php?username=darylo

Here's to continuing the madness.

If you need to take 10 minutes out of your day (minimum), then watch this slideshow of my year two (I know, what's up with all the self promotion?): http://365project.org/darylo/365/2015-01-21
Welcome back! It's good to see you. Looking forward to following your new adventures.

Great to see you back! Love the chairs and the fab shadows! Keep us updated on your thoughts about the 7D 11 please. I need to justify to myself why I need to buy one!
February 7th, 2015
I love the light and dark values, as well as your choice of black and white to emphasize the shapes of the chairs and their shadows

This is awesome with great shadows!

Congratulations on the new camera too! Good to have you back whenever you show up!
February 8th, 2015
holy crap - that is one helluva birthday present... happy happy! love the focus on the shadows here...
February 8th, 2015
@northy Yup, and all I can keep saying to myself (in a "Wayne and Garth" voice) is "I'm not worthy!" And I'm not even close to understanding the million of buttons or custom features. BUT, my hope is that I'll master enough of it to take it to Tokyo and Bali. 50.5 is going to be one helluva time. :)
February 8th, 2015
What a wonderful photo...such strong and well-defined shadows, the actual chairs seem to be the secondary part. I think many of us do as we please these days (when all else fails)...I love taking photos...and I love this community...will be around awhile and glad you'll be here, too!
February 8th, 2015
Great shot and birthday gift. I will still follow you while you learn your new camera if you can take me just learning period lol. Looking forward to your photo's.
February 8th, 2015
@miata2u Peggy, I haven't been back on much--did you get the slow shutter thing done? I'll pop over there. :)
February 8th, 2015
Hello, Daryl! I'm glad you're back. This is a wonderful shot. I live the lighting and shadows.
February 8th, 2015
Congrats on the new creative accoutrement... so excited for you! It is put to stellar use on this shot, which is terrific. Love the focus on the sequential lengthening shadows. Enjoy!!!
February 8th, 2015
Welcome back. Just lurve those shadows!
February 8th, 2015
love the playing shadows.

Great work with the shadows! Nice image.
February 8th, 2015
This is beautiful! like your composition and the long shadows!!
February 8th, 2015
Fabulous
February 8th, 2015
Gorgeous shot, faved! Congrats on the new camera. I found that the more buttons, etc on a camera, the easier it is to use. Smoke comes out of my ears when I try to go full on manual with a P+S! Glad you'll be staying around.
February 8th, 2015
@timandelke Yeah, I'm not even going to try to touch manual again for a while. I'm going on a photo walk with my club today and I have to make sure the flash does not fire--so I'll be spending some time ahead of time! to see about it. I"m taking the manual. It's a whole new game. This is possibly the fist shot I have liked of hundreds I have taken (and really badly). :)
February 8th, 2015
@darylo good idea - make friends with your owners manual. When I got my 5DMii, I sat with my camera and manual in my lap, going thru the pages one at a time. If you have a Program mode, you should be able to turn off the flash, set your ISO and the camera will do everything else. It's kind of like a "semi-auto"
February 8th, 2015
Love the shadow lines
February 8th, 2015
Such a fav for me - the coolest shadows ever!
February 9th, 2015
Really a great composition and processing of a very simple but well arranged subject. You have used the s, shadows, repeating patterns, everything, to perfection!
February 9th, 2015
Love the contrasting shadows.
February 12th, 2015
Congratulations -- I loved this one the first time I saw it!
February 18th, 2015
@catwoman2 Thanks so much Mary. :)
February 19th, 2015
Thanks for finding it!
I love the 'threeness' of it - if that makes sense! A belated fav!
January 9th, 2018
@dibzgreasley Thanks Debs! I remember setting it all up and standing on another chair to get the shot. All in front of the HIGH Museum crowd in Atlanta. I'm less obvious these days, but I liked the result in the end. It is lovely in my kitchen framed.
