I noticed this curious item located between the running rails at Portchester Station today. After a bit of research it appears to be an ASDO (Automatic Selective Door Opening) passive device to manage door opening if train is in non-optimal position at the platform. This means the train automatically detects where it is in the station and will only allow doors to open within certain points so passengers cannot alight where there is no platform.
