I often walk past this pole but for some reason today I spotted the GPO mark on it. I worked for the GPO Telephones back in the sixties and I know that BT as we now know it was formed in the seventies so this must be a really old pole and so it is. The markings on the pole tell that it is GPO 28ft L(ight) pole and dates from 1966, so it's 51 years old and still in use. How come my fence posts struggle to last 10 years?
