Feed the birds

Seagulls around Poole town centre have become an increasing nuisance in recent years. I personally have been dive bombed four times in the High Street and relieved of my lunchtime sandwiches to my annoyance. There have been calls for a 'gull cull'. However, scientists have pointed out a more sinister reason for these attacks than too many birds. It seems that the gulls' food source in the sea is for a number of reasons (mostly manmade) in decline and the birds are pushed into ever closer contact with people.
And it serves people right for eating their food on the hoof!

@jqf Some of us slaved away in a very busy office and of course had to multi-task at lunchtime to get personal things done (ha, ha). OK, these incidents did cause a certain amount of mirth for my colleagues. If I came back from lunch looking flustered and cursing that a herring gull had pinched my dinner, someone was bound to pipe up: "that was no herring gull, that was a sandwich tern."

Similar signs can be found in our beach community, especially near the beachfront hotels. People who feed the birds are not the ones having to clean up the mess left behind.
