Today was fantastic. I took an early train up to Cape Ann again for the Gloucester Schooner Festival. The weather was perfect, sunny and cool with a north east wind. About twenty-five schooners, both old and recently built, had sailed into Gloucester on Friday.
Today there was a Parade of Sail, and I lined up along the promenade with thousands of others to watch the magnificent boats sail by. Some were local, and others had come from Boston, New York, Florida, and even one from England. It was thrilling to see them out on the harbor. This is how it must have looked in the olden days, when Gloucester was a major fishing port and the schooners would race back with their catch.
In the distance is the end of the breakwater, and Eastern Point Light would be to the left of that. We went past there on the around Cape Ann boat ride last Saturday. After the parade, the boats sailed out past the breakwater to begin their race.
I walked miles today in the brilliant light and fresh air of Cape Ann, both in Gloucester and Rockport. It was a stellar day. I see that I took over two hundred photos, and I'm sure I'll post more in coming days. The images from this day on Cape Ann will stay with me.
