Reaching for the skies and yes, it does signify a new start. Spring is definitely in the air for the Northern Hemisphere - as this pleasing shot confirms - so I'll have to use this as my reminder as the Southern Hemisphere faces winter. Boo.

@scooter @girlie These flowers are called Blood Root. They are wild flowers generally found in the forest and they have a history with Native Americans using the root for red dye.

@denisedaly Thanks for the ID. After 'misidentifying' them I noticed the leaves are not those of jonquils so they only have a passing likeness. Obviously a native American flower and a very lovely one.
