Nikau by dide

Nikau

This lovely nikau was in a patch of bush right in the middle of suburbia (Auckland). It is in a piece of bush called Totara Park and it is a real gem - surrounded by the concrete jungle of the city. I was leading a class trip of 10 year olds, so they could explore the forest ecosystem - especially the forest floor and the invertebrates that live in the leaf litter - lots of fun and learning!
Gorgeous palm, nice find

A lovely shot of this tree in its natural habitat of forest. These are extremely slow growing so this must be a very old one.
