This white bike is on Auckland's Tamaki Drive which leads from the city around some lovely bays. It was put there as a memorial for a young woman who was knocked from her bike and killed when a (parked) motorist opened their door in her cycle path. It is there to remind motorists to watch for cycles and in memory of Jane as she was a regular rider in this area. A sad reminder for all to take care.
I remember this occasion - an awful thing to have happen and I, as a cyclist always look to see if someone is in the driver's seat when I go past on my bike as a result of this.
Such a sad story. But a very beautiful photo. I have been knocked off my bike this way too, luckily i walked away from it with no more than a scratch. I think drivers need reminders because if you don't ride sometimes it's not in your thoughts to look out for them.
Lovely emotive capture. 6 days ago, a friend and her hubby went out cycling, and a big truck plowed into them, killing them instantly....still shattered!
