We were lucky enough to be able to stay at CUE Haven (Cultivating understanding and enlightenment). This lovely spot is near the Kaipara Harbour and is owned by an environmentally passionate couple. They are in the process of converting a 59 acre farm into bushland. There are many, many volunteer groups involved in propagating and planting trees to assist the process. The planting began a few years ago and is well underway - at this stage it is mainly manuka, caprosma, sedges, cabbage trees and flax. As time goes on, bigger growing canopy trees will be planted in amongst the pioneer planting. Such a great vision and we are lucky - even more lucky that this non-New Zealand born couple have chosen our country to re-establish our native flora and fauna.
What a great thing to do. Well done to them. My mum went to NZ for her 90th birthday. They stayed in an environmentally friendly place somewhere near Dunedin. May I copy this picture for her. She'd love it?
