NZ Red Ensign by dide

NZ Red Ensign

I was lucky enough to have another trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island today, with a class from The Gardens School. The kids had a great day and it was a pleasure to be with them. On the ferry on the way home, it was really, really windy and a bit choppy. This is the NZ Red Ensign flag, which must be flown on NZ ships. It is not the National Flag - the National Flag has a navy blue background. There are four stars, representing The Southern Cross constellation, but the wind kept whipping the flag around, so some are missing!
Great shot... lovely blue sky and water... Hope there was no sea sickness....

@julzmaioro No - lucky we weren't going all the way to Auckland though, (we disembarked at Gulf Harbour).

You picked a nice day to be out there, hope you got lots of bird shots as well.

@rustymonkey It was freezing to begin with… No - when you have a heap of kids, birds are the last thing you get to photograph… We'll have to go again, minus the kids!

Lovely capture, really shows the fresh breeze and choppy sea, and interesting to see the NZ version of our maritime flag.

I like the way you have a landscape but the flag has centre stage.

Beautiful capture - you can almost feel the chill of the wind.

A beautiful bright flag Dianne....love that bright red. There is talk I believe of changing your National flag in the future & incorporating the silver fern. Must admit I do like a red, white & blue colour scheme.

Looks a beautiful day to be out on the water, despite the wind - nice shot!
