Loquats by dide

Loquats

The loquats are nearly ripe and the tree has heaps of fruit on it this year.
It is the first time I heard this word 'Loquats". I hope they taste nice.

Looking good... you will have to stand guard to keep the birds away from them..

@julzmaioro @yaorenliu They are lovely - yes - the birds love them, and the wasps too.

Wonderful shot Diane. I LOVE loquats, and have a tree in our backyard here in San Diego. You can literally grow them from seeds, and the weather here seems to be perfect for them, but we don't really expect the fruit until about February. The buds are forming right now. @yaorenliu The fruit is absolutely delicious. It has huge pits inside, and when they are ripe they are real sweet. Can't really get them at the markets, though. The fruit does not last long once picked.

@panthora Thanks - lovely explanation.
@swilde I have never tried to make jam from these, have you?

We had a Loquat Tree when I was growing up, what lovely memories your photo brings to mind. Lovely shot.

What a pretty picture you've created out of these colorful little fruits. The bokeh of the background made a wonderful backdrop as well. Don't believe I've eaten a loquat before although perhaps I did as a kid and just wasn't aware of what my grandpa was talking me into trying from his collection of fruit trees in the Southern California area.

New fruit for me. I've read everyone's comments. Sound tastey

What on earth do you do with them Dianne? I've tried them raw umpteen times with the same result - dislike.

great shot, i have never tried these fruit.

@golftragic Ha - must be an acquired taste! Only any good eaten straight off the tree so the juice drips down your chin! Not a lot of flesh though. They've a very short shelf life.
November 17th, 2014
I have to agree an acquired taste, that I have yet to acquire a taste for.
November 17th, 2014
@dide Mmmm, I do remember doing that while sitting up the tree with a friend when we were about 12 - got juice everywhere. But can't hack 'em nowadays.

I cannot believe they are nearly ripe! It must be heaps colder here - and now I have to go out and check mine carefully!
