Pitcher plant

Had a lovely day out with @julzmaioro today and of course we had our cameras with us! This lovely pitcher plant is in the Wintergarden in central Auckland.

Lovely close up, great focus and clarity. The markings at the mouth of the pitcher are fascinating, such amazing and bold patterns!

@fishers They are a tropical carnivorous plant - the stripes on the trap outer are to attract insects. The insects are also attracted by nectar, then fall down the chute into a watery substance which dissolves them for plant food. These plants were in the Wintergarden in a very humid, warm glasshouse.
