Cyclone Pam by dide

Cyclone Pam

In the South Pacific, a huge cyclone has devastated Vanuatu and then headed south towards New Zealand. The cyclone had lost most of its power by the time it got to NZ and only the east coast was hit by high winds. In our area, on the west coast, we were pleased to have 22 mm of lovely gentle rain overnight. It's the first decent rain we've had for ages.
It was so sad about the devastation in Vanuatu. The good news for us was that we have friends with family over there, and they are all safe. It is at least good news that you got some much needed rain out of it.

@karlow75 Yep - pretty traumatic for those that lost loved ones and their homes, crops and livelihood.

@dide it was great to hear that New Zealand has already sent over aid, and is helping out with the clean up already. What legends.

@julzmaioro @karlow75 Yes - so good that the forces get into gear and fly aid and manpower out to Vanuatu as soon as they can.

Great photo and makes me recognise how fortunate to have regular rain in our part of the world. And our gales are just so limited in comparison.

Super shot to celebrate your welcome gentle rain. Terrible disaster in Vanuatu but good that aid is there already.

It is so dry this year, we nearly danced when rain arrived.

We heard that Vanuatu had been devastated this morning, very sad.

My first impression of this image was that it was a chimney of some sort, then my brain kicked in.

Great that you have received well needed rain, but so sad for Vanuatu

22mm is quite a lot and if it was gentle be very good for the pasture! So much water elsewhere, though!

Like the 22mm in the rain gauge, would love to see that in mine soon :)

Very nice and a good reminder how much rain is important even though I hate it when it rains. So sad about Vanuatu. Saw some shots of the destruction on tv.
