We have 8 ducklings that are now two weeks old. The mother laid the eggs near the drain right across the road, so when they hatched, Josh gathered them up and put them in a cage. Along with the chance of being run over, we have hawks that fly about and would have happily eaten them. The mother is like a wild goose - hissing and ruffling her feathers and attacking if you go near her babies. She's pretty vocal too!
