The waterfall and carving

This is from the other day when we had a lovely walk around Lake Wainamu, near Bethells Beach. At the top of the lake, overlooking the waterfall is a gorgeous carving. It is of an important Maori called Kowhatukiteuru, who build pa in this area. The spiral markings on his body represent the many springs in this area. A Maori ritual was carried out (in the pool below the waterfall) to prepare young swimmers before sending them off to gather kaimoana (seafood).
A lovely collage Dianne

Very impressive collage Dianne. Don't have a clue how to pronounce that name though. Some Maori words are beyond me.
