Who's got the tequila? by dide

Who's got the tequila?

We were heading up the east coast of the South Island today and stopped off to look at the saltworks at Lake Grassmere. Salt water is pumped in from the Pacific Ocean onto the flat shallow 'lake'. The warm north-westerly winds and the dry summer, combined with solar drying evaporates the water and salt crystals form. This digger was moving the stockpile and it looked a fun job!
Oh boy, you'd need a lot of tequila to go with that amount of salt! ;-) Lovely capture and very interesting.

Never been there but seen it from a distance! Who would know the history of salt here!

@maggiemae yes - it’s interesting. We still have to import about 50% of NZ’s requirements.

I had no idea that was a method of making salt. Ours is mined under Lake Huron.
