Today is the first ever public holiday for Matariki in NZ. It is a time for remembering the past, celebrating the present and looking to the future. It is the time of the year when the cluster of stars reappears in NZ skies and is the Maori New Year.
This random image has nothing to do with Matariki, but more about getting an image without using too much energy as I recover from Covid.
Here in the states, we celebrated Juneteenth as a federal holiday for the first time. It is when word got to the last slaves about their freedom. We need to honor natives and remember history.
Ant told us about this first public holiday …..sounds a good reason for one too. All our bank holidays as call them are on a Monday unless a very special reason such as the recent platinum jubilee.
