Cook Strait crossing by dide

Cook Strait crossing

Today we came on the ferry from Picton to Wellington. It started out rainy and foggy, but really calm as we left Picton. As we began to cross Cook Strait, the waves and swells were pretty big... heaps of people were seasick as the ferry made its way across the strait. The huge swells were a result of the terrible weather and winds from Cyclone Gabrielle. The South Island has not been as badly affected as the North. Such devastation and loss of lives in the North Island and some people are yet to be accounted for. Communications and power are still not working in many areas. The navy ships are coming in to help supply food parcels and fresh drinking water to areas that have been flooded.
Nice shotsDianne but pleased I wasn’t on it lol

@Dawn ugh me too, I probably would have been too seasick to take photos, so well done Dianne!

Gabrielle has made our national news every day. What a devastating storm. Your collage illustrates the crossing so well.

Nice representation
Sadly the second firefighter at Muriwai has now died. The gisborne, Hawkes bay region situation is heart wrenching

Not a happy crossing Dianne, you were very brave to get on that ferry especially as the ferries have had problems lately. You will be glad to get hone & see if any damage at home.

Huge contrast between Picton and Wellington! I'd have been one of the seasick, that's for sure!

Great collage. The cove sheltered from the wind is safe, but when you go beyond the cape, the sea shows its power.
