Watermarks,

Watermarks are a great way to protect your photos from thieves. I was not using them at first but I think I will start. Anyone else agree?

I would only do it if you are a professional or selling prints, and are concerned. I almost feel sorry of the thieves that they are so pathetic that they have to rip off someone else's work. The other thing you could do is load a small, web res version of your pics - that way no one could use them as larger prints. Otherwise, I would just shrug it off, and take it as a compliment if someone takes your work.

You might want to wander over to the GENERAL section. Someone else has gotten some interesting responses on this subject - FEx, I never thought about the issue of children in pix...

I've thought about doing it too, but some of the really good shots others get are totally messed up with a watermark going right across the good part.

Upload a low res, small shot. It's the internet, things are copied all the time. Even professional prints are copied. You can't stop it.

ive just created myself a watermark, been meaning to do so for a while, and will be putting it on most pics from now on, if it wasnt such a hassle id like to put it on all previous images....but eh to lazy for that, and if anyone would steal my images they would have done so by now.

@jeancarl good point, if there is a will there is a way with the internet, low resolution is a very good idea.

I don't view watermarking as a way to prevent theft - that'll happen regardless if you're good enough. Which, of course, is why I'm not worried. :D
I view watermarking more as creating a brand. E.g. the watermark should be out of the way and not noticed unless you're looking for it. I'm not watermarking because I don't do this professionally.

i use to do it all the time on my photos. but it really draws away from the photo itself...

ive seen people who are able to remove the mark in photoshop, so that kinda made me feel whats the point? lol
