My cousin just put this on his facebook - a passage from the Anzac Cove:
"THOSE HEROES THAT SHED THEIR BLOOD
AND LOST THEIR LIVES ...
YOU ARE NOW LYING IN THE SOIL OF A FRIENDLY COUNTRY.

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE JOHNNIES

Australia and New Zealand Army Corps...
"ANZAC Day – 25 April – is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War."
25th of April 1914 was the day the ANZAC's landed on Gallipoli, where 1000's where killed...
Todays a day to remember those who were lost during the war...
There was dawn services all over the country at most RSL (retired service league) clubs and other places...
We celebrate ANZAC day tomorrow....which is actually today in NZ and Oz....but I have to work. One year it will land on a weekend...and I will remember the date. I went to Gallipoli in May 2010....with some Aussies...very moving for them. One had an uncle in the battle, and he made it home....one of the few.... :(
Have been going through my photos since returning from the ANZAC Day Ceremony in Canberra. I couldn't decide on just one to convey my thoughts and feelings - so created a collage. If I was forced to pick one - the little Vietnamese Lady vigorously cheering on the former soldiers was poignant.
my extra shots for today were simply Aussie based shots taken whilst I was in Melbourne just over a week ago... but with text in the captions to bring attention to it being ANZAC Day & to fill in our overseas 'viewers' to the importance of the day...

I'd specifically taken another shot of Rosemary with the idea of doing a text edit to it, for today, but used my main album shot for something else that occured today... I might add it later if I get around to doing the edit...
@sam_cr Thank you for the background. All these pictures are wonderful and very touching. In the U.S. Memorial Day is at the end of May. Some day I hope to visit Australia and New Zealand if the time and funds ever come together. I had one opportunity come my way and I let it get away. Thank you , everyone for sharing these with me. Thoughts and prayers being said for the world's service members past and present, and their families.
We have been away for the Easter weekend so I have just found this thread. We did head home to participate in our local ANZAC march and get together at the RSL before heading back to camp. These as some shots from the service including my son wearing his great-grandfather's medals as he marched for the first time as a Joey Scout
