I agree, but am not quite sure. Instead of showing all the flame, have you thought of cropping into an area where you will get concentrated detail. I am trying flames this week, so I am interested in seeing what people say.
It is like having a runner going out of frame, there is no place for the flame to go. Try leaving the dark space above and shoft this either left or right of center.
i like the framing a lot - i wouldn't crop it. i think that you're missing some depth with the blown out portion where the fire is splitting. if I were to edit this, i would increase the clarity and contrast and maybe bring down the highlights a bit. :)
Hmmm, it's a great shot... for me I feel like it's isolated from the background, if that makes sense... like it's missing an ambient glow... but that could just be me... lol
@joannebradbury hey look the goblet of fire! Done some fire rubber stamping myself on a few of my photos from last July, but I agree with @swguevin that the space is what fixes the photo....though that purple flame is pretty darn awesome too.

Thanks for the tips. I could only grab a few shots before my camera battery ran out, novice mistake I know!! So it was quite a close cropped shot.
@rich57
Alf from Home and Away always say flamin mongrels.
I think it needs a little extra space at the top for the flame to flame into, less so the space at the bottom, that feels wasted.
I had another go at the editing. Had to erase some of the flames at the top to add more height. Had lots of fun with tints ;)
