Hey guys, i love this new photo I took with a "Ball Jar" and my model. I later processed a "fairy ball" into the jar. As much as I like the photo, I am still uneasy about it in a way I cant describe. Wondering if anyone had some critiques...
I really don't know much of anyting at all, but when I first looked at this picture, it was the design on the girls shirt that caught my eye not the fairy ball. Maybe the design is distracting to what your main subject is????
@boogie@shirljess thank you and a "fairy ball" is actually from a game called Zelda, its general shape also appears as a quidditch in Harry Potter. its that little glowing orb with wings that you see in the middle
I think a vertical orientation would help this... I feel like there's too much going on with the shirt, the ball and the background. Something like this (I just did a quick screen shot, so it's not quite perfectly composed, but you get the idea):
Remember you asked for critique here in this discussion so this will be honest and a bit pointed. It is not aimed at you, but the thoughts in my head as I look at the photo.
1) I think the angle the jar is being held at creates a lot of glare that makes the fairy pattern barely discernable.
2) The pattern of the t-shirt is way to graphicly strong to make people notice there is a ball jar being held.
3) the pose is completly unnatural in that no one would really hold the jar this way in the first place.
4) you are taking the photo from the ground up, so my eye rises past the ball jar and I am seeing the breasts (and the shirt is wrinkled)
5) The barbed wire is more interesting to me since it matches the retro style of processing you chose.
6) Basically there is a lot of distraction going on that is completely taking the attention away from the subject. You should go with something more simple that will highlight the jar and the design on it.
Too much other stuff, clutter going on and the fairy ball is not the focus of the picture.................be aware of what is going on in the background of your photos..........good for asking, it is the only way to get better....
