I took this photo today, and I don't like it as much as the one I have tagged for the theme in my project. There is something about it...maybe it's the lighting. This is my first low key PORTRAIT so I'm not really sure how I feel about it. What do you think?
@veg66 I just have a P&S. I think If I hadn't used zoom, and just cropped it maybe it wouldn't have been so bad? Is there a program that you can manually reduce noise?
Yes. what do you have at the moment to process your photos.? The point and shoot will be hard to get a low key photo from....but saying that there are a few thing's you can do...go to the M setting on the camera if it has one... then if you can choose your ISO do so...maybe ISO 400.?
@veg66 Right now I just use picmonkey (haha) and I am not able to change any settings manually unfortunately. I've spent hours on this camera trying to figure it out, but it does it automatically.
@cherishl i didnt see anything wrong about it, it still in a category of low key .... , next tme try to use a black or any dark background if u want to achieve more .... =)
@cherishl I like the original better than the fix. The fix is way too soft and smooth, and is very unnatural looking.
I also think the lighting makes her nose a little too sharp. You can either change the angle of the light, the angle of the face, or just darken the very tip of her nose to get rid of the point.
Also, the noise is caused by the ISO of the image. Not the lens. I kind of like it, anyway. Gives it a nice touch.
The lighting makes her chin protrude. I would change the angle like Gary said. And I definitely like the original better than the fix. Although, I know nothing about low key or portraits. Hah.
The original is much better, the noise is not bothering me at all!
As for the lighting... like @gurry Gary has said, changing the angle would be an option, but at least you tried to work with light and illumination (something in which I failed miserable today with my theme shot).
I'm no expert on portraits.. but I agree with @gurry, @dishaparekh176 and @shadowdancer on the angle... either the head needs to be turned a little toward the camera or the light needs to be moved.. so that it's not basically a full side profile shot ... :)
