Field of Sunflowers/Film

June 26th, 2013
I often photograph my friends for fun/practice and in the coming weeks I'll be shooting a friend in a field of sunflowers (haha sounds like I'm murdering her) and another near an abandoned gas station.

It would really help me out if you guys could critique some of my pictures of people and perhaps give me tips on photographing people in general. I don't have any fancy equipment outside of my trusty camera and some tripods because I'd like to get better at just taking pictures first.

Here's my flickr account where the pictures I'm not completely ashamed of are posted:

Feel free to comment there or here, doesn't matter. I just would really appreciate your help.

Also, I would love to start exploring film photography and I have no idea where to even start. Suggestions?

There is a tag to browse under the Browse bit of the toolbar. That is where a lot of people post their film photos in 365. If you follow some of those folk I think you will find out a lot about film quite quickly. There is some amazing wok in there!

Lovely shots in your Flickr page. An inexpensive item that I suggest is to take some large pieces of white cardboard to lighten any shadows on your subjects face. You would need one or more buddies to hold and direct the light onto the shadow areas while you shoot though. :)

@kazlamont Thank you so much. I'll have to start arranging more people to come with us. :)

@kaleidoscopeyes Many many wonderful photos there Brittany. You have a terrific eye! My suggestion is not to have your subject dead center, Look through your photos and the ones where you subjects are off to either side a bit gives it bit more interesting perspective. Try to practice The Rule of Thirds...
