what do you think?

I am looking for a little critique on this. I am not use to taking pics of babies who aren't pose-able or can sit up by themselves. Kaitlyn is right in the middle of that and I am not sure what to do with her. I tried standing over her for this one.

This is really beautiful Brenda. I know it is difficult with babies but I assure you it only gets harder when they start moving and won't sit still!

This photo is really adorable!! Up until the birth of my son one year ago I never did portraiture and honestly didn't care for it much. But now he is my best subject, my practice tool, and my "go-to guy" when I am stumped and need a last minute photo for my project.

So first what is your goal? I assume by the outfit that maybe a christmas card? Are you looking for only full body shots? If not, try from different angles. Put the camera near the floor (about an inch or so off the floor) and shoot a close-up of that cute little face in that hat!! Oh my gosh it is so adorable!! Also, even if she can't sit on her own, you can prop her up like on a couch (maybe in the corner) if you want a shot of her in a sitting position.

This picture was taken before my son could sit. He was propped up in the corner of the couch laying on the arm: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=170880392926950&set=a.170880326260290.45773.145799102101746

Obviously, just make sure you stay close and never leave her unattended or turn your back on her. They can roll or fall over in a split second!

Maybe try laying her on her belly? There might be some interesting shots there.

Your best bet is to just experiment with different angles/positions. Personally, I really enjoy this photo!

This is just too cute. As a mother of 2 year old twins, it's ALOT easier to get good photos before they're crawling. My two run around now and it's so hard to get them looking at me long enough let alone sitting still.
I honestly can't fault this photo but as Kim said, try some different angles, get some nice close ups and use props to sit bubs up if you feel the need. I have a Christmas one that my cousin took when they were newborns, I'll make it public on Facebook s I can share the link :-)

with our little one on the way and all our friends all ready having kids... how to shoot babies has been on my mind a lot.... I say someplace the idea that you 'frame' the child with context... ie show him with the dog laying in front of the window or 'watching' TV... in some cases the baby doesn't even have to be in the center of the frame... rather as strong side note... I will post an example if I can find it...

I would have no clue either but this is an excellent shot

my only pick is the pants, the foot on the left looks like its turned in an un natual position becausef the stocking heel not being in place. other than that nice shot and edit

Oh this is just adorable!! Really good shot. I guess the only flaw is the stocking on her right foot. It isn't positioned correctly. But otherwise, it's good! :)

Thank you so much @jillpearce @sarasdadandmom @_juliarichards @natandhayley @gavincci @barrymikhal @icywarm @amz87 @kcphotography @kjarn
I am feeling better about this. I think I just expect too much of myself sometimes. :)
@amz87 Thank you for the adorable examples!
@kcphotography Thank you also for the really cute example!
I have tried her sitting up in a chair and stuff, but I was having a hard time getting all of her in the picture. I really wanted the whole cute little bugger in the frame so I tried this one. :)
Again, thank you everyone. {{hugs}}
