Generally: tag your photos w/ critique or critique-me. There are a lot of people on here who like to help and will reciprocate if you critique their shots. Participate in the critique threads...search the tags/latest/pop pages for images that are close to what you want to shoot, results wise and ask the photog how they got it. Don't be afraid to offer your opinion of others when you are critiqueing, just because you aren't a "pro" doesn't mean you don't have an opinion of the photo. Tell them as specifically as possible, why you like the photo.
Specifically: I will go through your photos and offer my opinions! Hope this helps.

@shadesofgrey Thank you. I generally try to look at other people's shots and offer some opinion. I have not quite found a way to say what I want without it sounding weird yet though. lol I have a terrible time with words.

@lildancervixen aaah, well you could try the "sandwich" technique: something good, something to work on, something good. Or you could say something like I love the ______ about this photo but I wish ___________ could have been different in this way:
I noticed you were here before and have returned! Most people on this site are welcoming and here to get better as well as show off a little. This is definitely not one of those "other" sites where people get hostile when someone suggests how something could be better, so don't feel too shy about it!

@shadesofgrey Yeah I started this project early in the year, and then life kinda happened and I had to put off my photography for quite a while to help my daughters deal with a few deaths in the family of people they were very close too. But I am back now and I sincerely hope that I can start over and continue from here on out =) I really like this project and I know that if I stay with it I can get better.

Thank you for your suggestions on how to word my opinions... I will have to try it and hopefully it doesn't come out sounding to strange =) I have been on a couple of those "other" sites before and some of the people there did get quite hostile and could even be downright horrid with their "opinions". Needless to say I didn't stay there long

@shadesofgrey I just finished a counselng psycholoy course that taught us to use the sandwichng technique. Thought it was psychology using common sense. Now I see it's not psychology at all :)

Thank you for the tip on tagging with "critque". I didn't know people used the tags for this.

@herussell I'm sure it has it's roots in psychology. I have just been taught it along the way in life and have found that it is effective if it's used at the right place and time. If you haven't already go to browse and select by tag, find or search for the critique tags. It is fun and I do it every once in a while to give me ideas and force myself to verbalize what I like and don't like about a certain shot. That in turn helps me to understand how to make my photos better!
