Hi, i started the other day here, and I love it. At the moment im using my Kodak Easyshare md41. Its pretty good, but im debating weather to get a Nikon J1, as it looks amazing on the adverts for it. Does anybody have any advice on which camera to get, or anything on how good the J1 is? Thankyou!
Well, it is tiny, compact, has a less than stellar crop factor, which can affect your images if you want to enlarge. Sounds like a trendy, gimmick camera. I don't get it, honestly. At that price, you could buy a very nice entry level DSLR, and have much better versatility. However, if you want tiny, little thing like this, I think you could so better for less.
The j1 receives solid reviews so far.
On one side, for a similar price you could buy a micro 4/3 camera and have a bigger sensor and more lens choice.
On the other, video and stills simultaneously is Awesome!
Haven't used one, but cannot see how you would be dissatisfied with a J1.
Hello. Thankyou so much for the advice @lilbudhha and @cluvlj . I have d!efinatley learnt a lot from your comments.... It sounds okay the J1, but I might look at the pricing of cameras and decide from that. My brother has a big nikon, which is amazing. And his was pretty cheap. So i might save up for one of those:-) Thankyou
I think you'd be buying in to a system that doesn't have a shelf-life. If you want a compact camera and interchangeable lenses, go down the micro 4/3s route as it's a lot more established. I'd take Olympus or Panasonic's offerings over the Nikon J1 any day.
Here is a review from my favorite cynic, Ken Rockwell:
