Two weeks into my second year and I've noticed a bit of a theme. I've decided that this year I really was only go to shoot that which I honestly wanted to - no keeping with the Jones for me - and I find that over 90% of my shots are about my favorite hobby, knitting. It's shots of yarn, projects and Nerd Wars mostly with a few sprinklings of my lovely family. I thought it was rather interesting, it piqued the interests of the uber nerd that is me.
So have you noticed any type of a theme forming in your project - intentional or non?
My theme is more general, macro. Probably because it's my favorite lens and I rarely get to use it for work. So it's sort of my hobby lens. I did notice it last night though, and I don't want to get stuck doing just macros, so I need to start shooting other things lol.
@grecican I used to knit like a crazy woman before I got more serious about my photographing. Nerd Wars is SOOPER SEERIUS knitting bidness. :) As is knitting Doctor Who scarves. Shutting up now.
No theme for me ... I seem to be moving along by 'series'.
I decide to try and experiment with as many types of photography (and photograph editing) as I can ... and so far that has been really rewarding.
I now have to carry a notebook with me at pretty much all times, 'cos I get ideas/see locations than then I forget!! I was amazed by how much I've written down ... but now, I go back to it regularly both to add and try things I've written down.
@grecican ~ are you a nerd warrior too? It's a lot of fun if you like to knit/crochet/spin/weave and have a bit of a nerdy streak. It's on Ravelry, the fiber crafts website.
I ended up with alot of music shots, dogs, my favorite friend. pretty much in keeping with what I care about and how I spend my days. this year I'm trying to think about light and use it more effectively. i'm finding it challenging. i'm not sure if I'm getting better or worse.
@grecican Yep - if there is a nerdy knitted/crocheted item out there, someone has deconstructed/broken it down/recreated it. Doctor Who scarves, Harry Potter scarves, the hat the guy wears in Firefly...you name it. :)
Not sure I have a theme. I literally just shoot what catches my eye with a few wacky ideas thrown in for kicks! LOL! I guess my kids are the most photographed though!
No theme yet I don't think. Although I think sometimes we can get too close to our own things and miss little connections others may see! Maybe when I get further into my project I'll have it figured :)
Let's see .... sky series, garden series, food series, road series, walking series, mountain series, in addition to the various other day-to-day things. Hmmm .... I guess so. ;-)
@beautifulthing
Yes it's a loom. I just got a bunch because I can't seem to master knitting on my own. All I want is to make a stupid baby hat. :( lol. Thanks for answering my question.
@beautifulthing ~ Total nerdgasm that you know this stuff... just sayin'. And yes @grecican, that's pretty much what we do but we are divided into teams based on your nerddom (Dr. Who, Squints, Disney, Gamers, etc) and we have challenges. The tournaments last for three rounds, each round is a month long. You can do the challenges (6 each round) and there is also a dissertation which is a project that will take all three rounds to complete. The categories are fabulous too - Intellectual, Nerd Culture, Scientific, Giving Geeks, Technical and Team Spirits. It's awesome.
I remember this past summer how everyone was rushing to figure out the pattern for the sweater that Neville wore in the last HP movie. I myself am making a sweater based off of Ron's that he wears in the Deathly Hallows film... it's a total geek out and I love it.
Wow. After looking at your thread, I decided to go back through my photos and see if I had a theme running throughout my project... and I TOTALLY DID! Great topic, thanks for bringing this up! :)
I find I take a lot of pictures of drums, or pianos. (The fact that I play either and/or both for a living probably contributes in some way to this becoming a theme.)
Most of mine are Nature & Wildlife, and macro. It's what I love doing most more than anything. But I'm slowly trying new things as well, need to improve my skills all round.
