Nikon d3000

I have a d3000 and I am wanting to hook my camera to my computer while I'm taking photos to see the images better... Is there a way to do this or do I need special equipment??

I have never heard of anybody doing this. Is it common practice?

Surely you'd have to take your computer (and an electricity generator?!) around with you everywhere you went to take photos?

Not sure about the d3000, but I can do it with my d700. It's very cumbersome, though. All you need is the USB cord that you might already use to download from your camera to your computer.

I'm wanting to do this while duing pictures at home. Water drops/crowns....these are really hard to see on my camera and a Loy look in focus until I upload them and find out they aren't

@manek43509 It's called tethering. Usually it's done for things like shooting macros and for events, such as fairs, where you'd want to take and process a large number of photos without having to keep swapping your card into your computer.

How about using an Eye-Fi card? (www.eye.fi)?

It allows you to transfer your images wirelesslesly to a PC, iPad, etc...

@agima
This looks like one you can help with

@rcornish The entry level Nikons do not have tethering capability, which is what you are referring to. At least they never did. You have to go to at least a D90 or D300S for that. I may be wrong though. You would need Nikon Camera Control 2 software at the least.

Thank you everyone else!!!

@rcornish I have the d3000 as well! My camera came with a usb chord to hook directly to my computer. If you have a card reader in your laptop, that works too! That is usually how I transfer my files.
I love that camera- great first dslr!
