Help Identifying a strange mark/artifact on my image!

February 6th, 2012
Took this shot with 2 different lenses at around f22 and noticed a strange mark on the final image (not noticeable on the LCD or viewfinder). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like you have dust on your sensor.

@domstarr Yeah i agree with @jenp , either dust, or maybe a bit of sand got into your camera, happened to my mum's camera... take it to a camera shop and see what they can do to fix it.

Ah okay, I can't see anything on the sensor but I guessed that it would be camera related. I may take it into Jacobs where I purchased it and see if there is anything they can do there to help!

@Keri thank you also, I'm heading into town tomorrow anyway so I think I'll bring my camera in with me and go see what they say :) Thank you two!

Do you have one of those sensor brush bulbs? Sometimes you really can't see it on there. But if you squeeze the bulb and blow with it it might knock it off..

@Jennifer - No, I don't have any blower bulbs although it's probably something worth investing in. I'll probably look at getting one of those tomorrow!

@Ray Brilliant, I'll get one ordered!

I just got one of those rocket blowers, and cleaned my cameras internals. Dont forget to use the mirror lock up function when you use it. My camera is now sparkly clean! :)

@Lucy By mirror lockup do you mean when you switch between live view and viewfinder? or is there something you need to do manually?

I was going to have a look, but the link points to a completely different picture!

Whatever it is, Photoshop it out. ;)

@domstarr In my Canon menu, there is an option for manual sensor cleaning. it opens the shutters to allow you to to blow clean the sensor. You then turn off the camera to close them.

@Kit Haha, yeah. I had to upload it as my daily picture and then removed it to upload my real one! @Humphrey - Thank you, I am a bit reluctant to to do it without a tool as I don't want to blow saliva inside my camera haha, I think I will order a cleaner but hopefully Jacobs might have something on hand to help with!

Took it into Jacobs today and they were very helpful. They gave the sensor a quick check and discovered a hair upon it - after a quick clean everything is now back in working order!
