I come seeking your help, my fellow 365ers. I've been trying to find something different to do... and what better on an island than underwater photography? Problem is, I know nothing about the cameras / equipment involved and not to mention I sort of have a fear of the ocean, haha. Hoping someone can guide me in the right direction?
If ever I'm doing underwater photography, I use my Mums Canon P&S with a waterproof, underwater case she got for it, it's not the best quality camera in the worl though and I think it was quite expensive so if you're just starting out, it might be worth buying a disposible film underwater camera :)
There are waterproof point-and-shoot cameras available that don't require a waterproof case. A friend of mine brought one when we spent a day at the beach, and the results were pretty good - nice clear shots. :) I'm afraid I can't remember the brand or model name, I just know that they exist!
Just bought a p/s Olympus and it seems to be taking excellent photos plus there's an option to adjust your iSO, exposure and white balance. It's supposed to be good for up to 3 metres. Check my showers photo for the result.
I know that thoses weren't taken underwater, but I had the case on as I was on a canoeing trip.
This one was also taken which is underwater: http://365project.org/naomi/365/2010-02-28
Other then that, it really does depend on the clarity of the water, and the shot you take can only be as good as the photographer and the camera inside the case...but water clarity is a major thing.
I do know that you can buy point and shoot film/camera type things which are waterproof...but you can't go down as deeply with them as with a case :) x
my friend has a point and shoot under water camera. i used it once in my friends pool. heres the picture we ended up using: http://365project.org/laneyandaudrey/365/2010-05-15
it looks dark and blurry because f the way it was edited. but they usually some out bright and clear:)
if your not intrested in buying a whole new camera you could just get a case:)
i brought this for my little p & s and love it . i Take it everywhere with me . It fits all different sizes of p & s and the best thing about it is it makes the camera float ..
