Looks like it is something called an Air Potato. Most sites say it is highly invasive and poisonous if you eat it.

thank you for your reply. I went to one of thge web sites and agree fully. I wonder what it was doing on the ground at the Gardens. I would think rhey would not want it there. Thanks again. I am in upstate N.Y. and am quite sure it will not survive outside. thanks again
