Bird and Animal Photos - Please ID The Species

April 20th, 2012
Hi!
I've seen lots of great bird photos here in 365 Project. Since this is an international site, it would be nice if posters would ID the species of the animal or bird for the rest of us. I'm a birder here in North America, and would love to know the species of bird the rest of your are photographing. Please and thank-you.

I agree. I always try to ID the birds, animals, flowers, insects that I post from Oz as I know they're unfamiliar to those elsewhere. In return, I love to know what I'm looking at from those 365ers that post from other parts of the world. But sometimes this inhibits people from posting lovely shots of something they don't know the name of, which is a pity.

My only problem is that I am horrible at identifying a particular species unless it is at a zoo with the name in front of it, haha :)

I try to always identify the bird I have photographed, but I won't disclose where it was taken.

I'm not asking for exact addresses! Something like "Highlands of Scotland" or "near Giessen, Germany" those sorts of general locations.

@gizathecat
lol. My problem is I forget, for some reason, that the site is international. Silly, I know.

If I can get a decent photo of a bird, then I hope I can identify it, but flowers and insects are a different matter!

Ah! Also known as a Brazilian Cardinal - not related to the flashy birds of the American Mid-west. Beautiful!

As a fellow birder and bird photographer, I take is as a mission to relay information about what I present here - it makes the image have meaning and fosters understanding and appreciation. I applaud your bringing up this important point - also great to know where the photo was taken...often people will post a shot either not knowing what the species is, or asking what it is. Anyway, good going in making your excellent point!

@girlie I agree - I would hope someone not knowing what their subject is would post anyway, and ask for assistance in its identification. This could help us all learn!

Thats a good idea. I know I have posted birds which don't always know the name of but will infuture put where I photographed it.
