I want to buy some new lenses for my Nikon D5100 and I'm thinking of getting a fisheye lens or maybe a macro one.
Does anyone know any good places to buy them from or good products to buy? I don't want to spend too much, anything under about £150.
I found these but does anyone know if they would work well with my camera or if they are good lenses to buy?
What do you have now? I don't think you would be too happy with the ones in the links. You might consider only getting one good lens and play with that for awhile, then get another. The quality of the lens is far more important than the camera body, to be honest. It's what shapes and modifies the light so it accurately falls on the sensor of the camera (or film). It's really not worth spending too little on something that will give you less than happy results most of the time.
I am really interested to know about lenses too. I have a Nikon D3100 and i am looking to buy a macro and telephoto lens. have no idea where to start or what is good.
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks for starting this topic Nicole.
Do not buy those things that screw on to the end of a real lens. They aren't lenses. More like filters. I don't care that they call them lenses. They aren't. Stay far away from those things.
Invest in real lenses. Your next step might be the 55-200mm VR Nikon lens. I think it's around $200 American. Don't know what that translates to pounds. The 18-55 and the 55-200 are good lenses to start out with. After that, you might like a macro. The 60mm f2.8 (reasonable) is a good one as is the 105mm f2.8 (expensive). Another thing to look into is a refurbished lens. My 18-70 3.5-4.5 is a refurb and I haven't had a lick of trouble with it.
@simster You're welcome :) @mikehamm Okay, thank you so much for your help and don't worry I won't be buying them filter lenses aha, I think I will definitely go with the 55-200mm VR Nikon lens :)
I have a D5000, and I looked into zoom lenses, too, and I ended up buying the 70-300mm lens from Nikon. I originally looked into the 55-200mm or the 55-300mm but many reviews and people from 365 said the 70-300mm was much better, so I bought it and I really like it!
It's a lot longer and heavier (and more expensive, which may the deciding factor) than the kit lens the camera came with, but it's worth it.
I hope that helped, and I hope you end up with a great lens either way :)
If money is tight consider buying a good prime lens, like a 35 or 50 mm equivalent. Much less expensive and still great glass. You can get these for about 150 US Dollars. They also can make you a better photographer! I saw a couple over at B&H Photo for DX nikons, that were really very competitive.
I have recently upgraded a couple of my lenses so I have a Nikkor 55-200 for sale as well as Tamron 70-300 for sale. If you are interested, look me up on Facebook for links to the lenses/info or email me and I can give you more info. They are in like new condition and have been very well taken care of. I just upgraded to the Nikkor 70-300 with VR but the Tamron 70-300 is a decent starter lens.
@autumnseden I was just going to post something on your FB page. Ha! To @nicolesmith@simster I've shot with Autumn and she takes VERY good care of her stuff. If you can work out a price, go for it!!
@rleonard So what makes the 70-300mm lens better than the 55-200mm lens? I found a 70-300mm one for a really good price so I am interested in buying that otherwise is it worth spending an extra more to buy the 55-200mm instead?
@autumnseden Oh okay, how much are you selling them for?
@nicolesmith On average I am selling them for $25 - $50 less than retail (they are that "like new") and they come with a UV filter already. Email me at autumneden@gmail.com with which ones you are interested in and where you are located and I can give you the price for the lens including shipping.
