why wont Photoshop install on my laptop?

May 10th, 2012
Hey all you techies out there.
Just bought the student/teacher edition of P/S.

Cleaned out my laptop, so now have plenty of space.

put disc in and it does auto rum, program shows up, but Im either really tired and cant see set up.. or just very stupid and cant see set up..

It says that I have 30 days to get my student/teacher ID to install... but I would assume that seeing it gives me a 30 day trial it would allow me to install it straight away.

the pdf explains how to install --- go to the base file and then double click set up and follow instructions, but like I said there is no set up..

what I am I doing wrong. or what I am not seeing??

Thanks for your help.

I bought it a few weeks ago, as I already had the trial on my computer I just put in the registration number and that was all I needed to do- no need for the disk at all. Is the trial already on your computer?
Maybe try going to the adobe website and downloading it from there, it is all pretty straightforward, you just follow the prompts.
With the student/teacher version, you have to email them a copy of some evidence that you are a teacher or student (I took a photo of a letter saying that I am employed by the education department), then they approve it and send you your registration number in a day or two, have you done that yet?
I downloaded the update last night without any trouble.

How old is your laptop? My friend's is about 8 yrs old and it just can't handle the PS install. He had to get a new one:( Sorry that's not a super techie answer, but it's all I got.

@bluebell Thanks for answering.. No I do not have the trial or any photoshop software on my laptop.
I am aware that I need to send in the proof and have all that.. I just assumed that like most software it would be as simple as loading the disc and clicking on set up to install.

Windows: Insert the DVD in your drive, then follow the on-screen instructions. If the installer does not launch automatically, navigate to the Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 folder found at the root level on the DVD and double-click Set-up.exe to start the installation process. If you downloaded the software from the web, the installer will self-extract and launch.

but like I said earlier there is no set up.exe that I can see.

My IT husband is working at the moment and I thought I would be able to do this all by my little lonesome.. will just have to wait for him I guess..

Again thanks for your reply..

@pwallis Hey Paula. its coming up to about 4 odd years now.. I think lol

I will wait for my better half to get home and see what he can do.

It may be that I have to have the reg codes first?? but am thinking its strange that I cant find the set up exe on the disc.. anyway thanks for your reply..

On my Mac installation disc I couldn't find it either... If yours looks anything like mine it'll be a big PS in a square that looks more like an icon than an install file. I'm speaking from memory and don't have the disc open in front of me.

@nikkers You shouldn't need the codes before you install it. I got Lightroom student edition a few months back and it let me install if fully, then run as a trial while I sent off the evidence and waited for the serial number to arrive.

What version of PS is it? CS2 would not install on my new IMac because it is not compatible with the latest operating system.

@wormentude .. Thats what I was assuming would happen, install the trial then wait for code.. which I would do online as I can scan and send and then good to go...

thanks for your reply.. all I have is files.. upon files upon files... lol
will get the hubby to do it... maybe ..lol

Can you browse the DVD in Windows Explorer? If so, can you find the install or setup files there? If so, run them and see what they do. The autorun feature may not be enabled on your system.

Is there an error message appearing? What if you run the install as an 'administrator'? Does this help?

While in Windows Explorer, click on the DVD. You should then be able to press F3 on your keyboard and a "find" or "search" box will show up. Type setup, and then press enter and allow the search to run.
It might be that the setup.exe file is in a different location than the documentation says.
