So I was looking at the discussion "Do you "like" me?" and was wondering if I should make a facebook page for my photos. I just have a few questions/concerns. If you would please help me and share your thoughts that would be great thanks. My questions/concerns are: I am not a professional photographer AT ALL. I love taking photos but have never done any photo shoots. I have entered some competitions online but havent won anything. Considering all the things above should I create a facebook page. Maybe it would give me some recognition but I dont know. Thanks for your thoughts and comments. :)
i just started mine. I had only done one session when I started it, besides my kids. Since I started it a month ago I have done two sessions. I need to upgrade my camera before I pursue doing it professionaly more agressively. I started mine because it was just another step in the direction that I want to pursue.
I'm not a professional photographer either. Never done a 'session' or anything serious like that...I just love doing it.
If you want to start one...start one! What harm can it do? I find it's a good way to share with friends and family as well.
I just started mine so that I wasn't bombarding my friends and family with photos. Those that want to see them every day have liked the page. I'm definitely not professional but I just wanted somewhere to share what I love doing. Also, it allows people that I would not otherwise "friend" on Facebook to still see and enjoy my art.
@danacarruthers- that is a good way to look at it. Thank you so muck for your advise :) @paulaag- Oaky, I just have to jump the gun and do it, thank you for your support. :)
so WHY would i make a facebook page? that isn't meant as a snarky challenge, just a question... i do have stuff on flickr, but i don't do facebook at all... ever... so i am wondering whether there is really any point? can i just do it for photos and not for anything else? i might be able to handle that... vut not sure i can handle yet another social networking site!
@northy , OK, first of all, I don't know anything about Flickr.
The reason I personally would consider a FB page is because people ask to see my pictures and FB seems like a way to be able to show them. I am guessing the same holds true for Chelsea.
Maybe you can do that with Flickr......I don't know?
@paulaag yeah... people can see my pictures on flickr... but no one i know in real life ever asks to see them :( (well, except for my mom and bro'... family pictures are there, but not available for general viewing - i can decide who will have access... which is a nice feature... not sure if you can do that on fb or not)
I have one just so that my normal facebook page isnt clogged up with my photography. (Believe it or not the vast majority of people are not overly interested) My friends can look at them if they want to but so can people that are not my fb friends eg 365 friends.
Certainly not for recognition or to be professional. https://www.facebook.com/mons.montage.moments
I thought of a facebbook page, i can nearly hear my friend moan when u upload some new shots lol..... @bkbinthecityhttp://www.facebook.com/dgsulzberger if you want a new fb friend, love to see your other work too
I just started mine up today for a lot of the reasons already listed... mainly to spare my friends and family from the often daily onslaught of photos I've been uploading to my personal account... They will still have to endure the photos of my kids, but at least I am cutting the carnage in half. And I have already realized that it is going to make for a nice organizational tool! Definitely nothing professional going on here.
@northy if you don't "do" facebook, then haviing a facebook page for your photos wouldn't really be worth it for you, but if you are on fb (and I am all the time!!) then it's a good way to promote yourself.
Funny this should be a topic as I literally started my photography page last night....haven't set it up finally yet....but think it's a good way to try and get some work (I'm not a professional, but would like to do some sessions)
I started mine as a showcase for my photography (in April) but also with the idea of building a business. I am currently portfolio building and have several client sessions book for the next month and have over 100 'likes'
I have since registered my domain and have a blog.
You really don't know where it may lead :) @northy depends what you want out of it, for a business I think there is more benefit to FB. For just a showcase I think it depends on which you use more..I have a flickr account but because I am on FB more it is my photography medium of choice :)
It's something I've thought about, but haven't started yet. I was thinking I'd only use it for my best pictures. Leave my regular facebook area for more general pictures and just keep that page for the best (at least what I would consider the best).
@northy I was posting way too many photos at one point and I'm pretty sure people got ticked at seeing them. I started my page and invited people to 'like' so they could keep up with what I've been doing. Those who like seeing my stuff, can see it everyday and those who could care less are spared! I'd like to think of it as a bit of networking. I'm more liking to shoot for someone I know, rather than be approached by someone on flickr. I've been asked...but nothing's come of it yet.
If flickr works for you...that's great :) My hubber cleared the history on the computer and I can't remember my damn flickr sign in stuff. Seems I may have had 2 accounts under one email address. Can't get in...may have to start over. Only had a few on there anyway, but it's a good way to keep up with all the senior 365ers that have moved on.
tx... so no facebook page for me ;p since i don't do facebook and i have no intention of doing sessions... at this point, i'm still struggling to figure out flickr, so last thing i need is, well, one.more.thing!
:)

Up to you. I don't do Flickr and my FB page is purely for my photos.
