I changed my camera settings to RAW.. and the file is a NEF. I have lightroom 4.1... HOW do I get them off my camera into my lightroom..Any one know how I do this.. Thank you in advance!!!!!!!
When you import them the program should allow you to view them as this is the latest version of Lighttoom and should be fully compatible with the camera you have.
@cheribug I have the same camera and had the same problem in LR ~ I now have to use PS to view NEF files, but I am sure there is a way to do it in LR ~ and I will look forward to learning how :-) ... so will keep an eye on this discussion
@cheribug I had that problem when I used elements and had to update the verison of RAW that I used and when I added Lightroom to my computer I had no issues. I will try and find the details now and will come back to you.
@cheribug If you go to Lightroom and press our F1 button it will open help and one of the sections deals with RAW and ensuring your camera is supported and also how to update to ensure compatability with your camera.
@mikehamm yes it did, but I am stuck in a hospital with my boyfriend on a new laptop with out that installed. I am trying to install nikon nx2 right now.. but we shall see.. @andysg let me know andy I am anxious to get these downloaded.
I have a D5100 and Lightroom 4.1 and have never had a problem go to lightroom then preferences is it set up like this?
mostly check if your camera raw plugin is the same as mine
Also I have heard that if you shoot in live view mode the raw files don't work in lightroom but I have never had that be a problem. Hope this helps
I suggest you move the files to your computer first, you can move the files without opening them, I do that then I do my first cull using a program called ViewNX to weed out obvious bad shots.
I always copy them to a day folder, then once I've done the first round of triage ;) I open Lightroom, synchronize the folder that they are in into my current catalog(NOTE: I think this is the step you are missing) then I can view them no problem.
I do all of mine JPG+RAW. So far I have only really worked with the JPG files, but want the RAW files, just like I want to keep my negative.
The Nikon software auto downloads them or I can open the card and drag them to my computer. Once there I use Photoshop Elements 10. The Raw converter there works fine for the RAW files. Lightroom should have the same converter.
@flagged I did download that program.. will have to figure it out.. @mgirard I did move to my computer into.a folder then imports from there. It worked.
nope that is what it should do. dng is lightrooms raw format. Lightroom converts your nif files to dng (digital negative) so that lightroom and other adobe software can read it. You didn't screw up that is how it should work.
