Create and Save Watermark WITHOUT Photoshop?

August 11th, 2012
I am driving myself crazy here!

I need to be able to upload a file to use as a watermark. I have tried using Microsoft office (creating it in a word document, copying into Paint and saving as a PNG file) but if I do that, the text has the white background box around it. Everything I see online requires you to upload photos to their site and put watermarks on them. I need to save a PNG file by itself (with only text) so that it can be applied and removed by the site I am selling from.

All I want is a very simple text watermark in century gothic, written in two lines. Ideas?

Thanks!

I'm guessing you don't have Lightroom or Photoshop, maybe try the free Photoscape or just use MS paint will do a simple watermark on your jpegs.

@flagged I do use photoscape, but as far as I know, that doesn't allow you to save a watermark. I just add text to those photos every time I edit.

What site are you selling you images on? Seems strange to me that they ask for a watermark most are the opposite.

I use TSR Watermark. Very versatile and easy to use.

What about Gimp?

Picmonkey is easy to use

GIMP would let you do it - save the transparent layer with the watermark and then add it to the new pictures

Christina, if you are still stuck, have a look and my profile and drop me an email via my site. I'll do it for you if need.

I use Windows Paint Christina, you can choose to have a transparent back ground for the text and what ever color you want. Simple, free and effective :)

@shannew Shanne..and then do you just save one copy as the "unified" copy...that cannot be separated? And then post that one, but keep the original version with no watermark? I am about to start watermarking I think....

@espyetta I don't watermark, sorry - but you could either save as .xcf with all the layers so you can go back and change things, or as a unwatermarked version, plus the watermarked version. If I'm doing something complicated in GIMP I save as .xcf knowing I can change stuff / remove layers, whatever, then save as .jpg when I finish

@ccenecua I tried the free photo shop trial, said it would take 61 hours to download, so I just purchased it. Could this be some kind of marketing plot lol !
