Adapter Help

September 7th, 2012
So I am looking at a Canon FD 50mm 1:1.4 s.s.c. I have Canon T3 and deciding if I should get an adapter, fd-eos. I did some research but I'm still not too fond of how this would work out. I hear that with adapters anything more then f/4 would produce glare and render the images unusable. Also is it true with adapters that it crops/magnifies the lens?

My favorite 50mm prime I use with my Canon 5D Mark II is a Super-Takumar (Pentax) from 1965. It is f/1.4 to f/16 and is great the entire range. I got an adapter from Pixco that does mimic the electronics to indicate with a "beep" when the lens is in focus (since it is strictly a mechanical lens). I have no idea about any truth about the "more than f/4" issues you cite above; I just know I have had no problems at all with my lens.

Here is my latest shot at f/1.4:

The f/1.4 is amazing... most of my photos are shot with it :)

@hugs - Because of the distance from the lens mount to the sensor/film plane, there's no good FD - EOS adapter. Most of those adapters require optics to allow infinity focus which degrades the image quality and cuts some of the light.
